Graeme Holloway was born in country Victoria, but moved to Tasmania as a young child. He studied pharmacy and participated avidly in student life, winning a University Blue for hockey and representing the University and State in tennis and squash. Photos suggest pharmacy student conferences were also a highlight!

Graeme was an advocate of the importance of pharmacy to the community, running extended-hour dispensaries in Bridgewater, Bellerive and Rosny. He sought to instil these values in future members of the profession through his dedicated support of both the undergraduate community pharmacy placement program and providing training for graduate students. He served as President and was a long-term member of the Pharmacy Board of Tasmania.

On retirement from community pharmacy, he continued in the profession, contributing to the Alcohol and Drug Service's opiate replacement program. In 2018 he was awarded a Pharmaceutical Society of Australia Life Fellow status and the Tasmanian Pharmacist Lifetime Achievement Award. In presenting the award National President Dr Shane Jackson said Graeme's dedication to pharmacy had helped raise the standards of the profession and pharmacy organisations: “Graeme was a fantastic mentor, not only to his own staff but to the pharmacy interns he trained in his own time". He bravely held off renal cancer for over 20 years, finally succumbing in February 2019.

Graeme’s children are working with the Pharmacy School at the University of Tasmania to award an ongoing prize for excellence in community pharmacy named in honour of their late father.
