Geolocators

Geolocation Journeys is an innovative collaboration between marine predator researchers at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies and artists at the Tasmanian College of the Arts.

This Science+Arts initiative uses ‘retired' geolocators used to track Southern Ocean marine predators, such as albatrosses, seals, and penguins and crafts them into unique, handcrafted pieces of jewellery. All donated funds will be used to purchase new geolocators for future tracking studies that will allow scientists to uncover foraging movements of marine predators and identify regions of the ocean that are of high ecological significance.

A minimum donation of $100* will receive a Geolocation Journeys creation, please indicate your species preference in the comments field below.

*Each new geolocator purchased for research costs scientists $180.
*For international donors a minimum donation of $120 is requested to cover the costs of shipping.
